MemberOvomorphJan-12-2017 12:16 PMA coworker mentioned this but I thought it was worth discussing here. Alien Covenant breaks in the alphabetical android naming conventions:
Ash
Bishop
Call
David
..Walter?
The comics have Elden but I wonder if this was an oversight on naming conventions or reading too far into it. Anyone else know anything about the deviation?

MemberXenomorphJan-12-2017 12:52 PMIf I were to guess, it's a deliberate departure. Maybe they thought it was getting a bit old.

MemberOvomorphJan-12-2017 2:11 PMI think David was called like that for biblical connotations. There may be a reason for Walter to have that name that remains to be seen. I don't expect these movies to care too much about referencing the sequels wether directly or indirectly.

MemberPraetorianJan-12-2017 3:15 PMI've noticed.The android names in alphabetical order isn't essential really.

MemberTrilobiteJan-12-2017 3:28 PMI think Wrenchpede may be correct regarding David.
David was presumably first so his name coming after Call doesn't make much sense to me.
Walter is a bit of a dome scratcher. He seems to be a newer version of David so maybe that alphabetical sequence was tossed out.

MemberPraetorianJan-12-2017 3:30 PMAlso i doubt Ridley and the writers were taking Alien Resurrection into consideration.I don't think he likes it.

MemberDeaconJan-12-2017 3:38 PMWell we are talking Synthetics are we not? And Walter looks like David and is a advanced model...
Well i would like to you too meet Synthetic Doll Renie... Renie 2 Model 2-4 to be exact....
But hell maybe i just call her Alice
My point being this can be a David 9 model.. and there is nothing special about the Covenant, its not a Flag Ship Prometheus Ship with the CEO and Vice CEO on-board.
And so there is bound to be thousands of Davids in the work place... It would be hard to then start giving them prefixes... like David 8001 and David 9035 etc..... and they are supposed to fit in with us.. which is why David wore the Space Suit as he said to Holloway if he did not, it would defeat the purpose of trying to fit in.
so Walter could just be the name this David 9 model is given and its no a Walter Model so to speak.
I think this would be the best explanation myself...
Otherwise maybe they would have carried on with Francis.

MemberOvomorphJan-12-2017 4:04 PMGood point Big Dave. I figure its just the name the crew gave him.

MemberXenomorphJan-12-2017 4:42 PMAccording to Spiahts, David was chosen because of the Ash, Bishop, Call thing and also as a reference to Michelangelo's statue.

MemberFacehuggerJan-14-2017 2:58 AMI have come to believe (in blind faith) that they retroactively thought, "hey, David could be an homage to friend-of-the-show, David Giler! So why don't we name the new robot Walter, after the other friend-of-the-show, Walter Hill?"
ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-14-2017 3:07 AMI never thought of that.It would be fitting since they've been with the series since the beginning.

MemberXenomorphJan-14-2017 3:39 AMHadn't thought of that either. Wouldn't surprise me if it was a reference to Hill. Even though they haven't any real involvement for 25 years.
